New Faces, Shared Goals
At the end of October, participants from seven European countries came together in a peaceful accommodation in BodrogkeresztĂşr, located in the heart of Hungary’s well-known Tokaj wine region. Young people from Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Portugal, Serbia, Romania, and Lithuania arrived with a shared hope — to build Blooming Connections around the theme of well-being and to create friendships across the world.Â
The first two days of the youth exchange were filled with name-learning and icebreaking activities. Participants didn’t just learn each other’s names, they also shared plenty of laughter and built excitement for the days ahead. Before diving into the main topics, they explored the opportunities the European Union offers to young people.Â
The Journey to Social Well-being
Then the real journey began. Well-being became more than just a word, it was something to explore, discuss, and experience together. Through hands-on group activities, participants discovered the many aspects of well-being and shared stories from their own lives. Soon, the focus shifted to social well-being: the invisible threads that connect us to others, the small moments of support, friendship, and empathy that make life richer.Â
Challenges were tackled head on. Through theatre exercises, participants expressed their feelings and acted out scenarios about helping others. Individual reflections allowed them to look inward and rediscover themselves. Outdoor activities gave them the chance to reflect in nature, noticing how much our surroundings and the people in them influence how we feel.Â
The Cultural Sharing
Evenings were alive with culture. Each country had its moment in the spotlight, sharing quizzes, traditional dishes, and folk dances. Laughter filled the rooms as participants tried new foods, stumbled through dance steps, and celebrated the differences that made the group unique. These intercultural evenings weren’t just fun, they were bridges connecting hearts and minds, showing that understanding and joy can be found in every corner of the world.Â
Building Lasting ConnectionsÂ
What began as a group of strangers evolved into a close-knit community. After 10 days of inspiring activities, shared learning, and unforgettable experiences, saying goodbye was not easy. The Blooming Connections youth exchange left participants with new friendships, a deeper understanding of well-being, and memories to cherish for years to come.Â
