Local Training in Via Ferrata Goat’s Danger

In October 2023, amidst the warm embrace of an unusual autumn Saturday, we embarked on a captivating adventure to Kecskevész Rock in Harghita Madaras. Our mission was to conquer the Goats Danger Via Ferrata, a thrilling experience heightened by vibrant colours under the sunshine.

This expedition, part of the “Operation Hook II” project, brought together 12 enthusiasts who were eager to learn about Via Ferrata and the safety features behind it! The results were remarkable – insights were gained, mistakes avoided, and a collective understanding of the dangers of overestimating one’s abilities.

The Goats Danger Via Ferrata, with its diverse routes and unique features, provided the perfect terrain for our safety training. Our team confronted various challenges, including navigating the demanding “Vietnamese bridge,” a distinctive structure constructed from only two cables. Additionally, the participants familiarized themselves with the techniques of using the Prusik knot to ascend and descend along the steel cable, preparing to apply these skills when necessary.

Mastery of equipment usage, from maintaining proper distances to the precise handling of carabiners and avoiding the misuse of Dyneema slings slings as personal anchors, was a focal point. With these skills honed, our participants are now well-prepared to seek new adventures.

As the day came to a close, everyone departed from the rocks with gleaming smiles on their faces and cherished memories in their hearts.
