Documenting the Spirit of Rokytnice nad Jizerou
As part of an Active Citizenship Campaign within the Citizenship in Action project, a group of young enthusiasts came together in the village of Rokytnice nad Jizerou, Czechia, to take part in a video documentary workshop. Motivated by a desire to learn, express, and engage with the local community, they embarked on a journey that combined creativity, storytelling, and civic exploration.
The workshop began with an introduction to filmmaking techniques, including how to adjust camera settings, build visual narratives, and approach documentary storytelling. With the support of facilitators and access to equipment, participants quickly moved from theory to practice, shaping their own visions into stories worth telling.
Set in the heart of the Krkonoลกe Mountains, Rokytnice nad Jizerou offered the perfect setting for this activity โ a peaceful village surrounded by nature, where the rhythm of daily life invites observation and reflection. Its calm atmosphere and natural beauty created an inspiring backdrop for exploration and storytelling. Participants walked through the streets with cameras in hand, engaging in conversations, discovering unexpected details, and observing everyday moments with curiosity. By listening to the voices of the people who shape the community, they captured stories that reflect the identity and character of the place. The resulting mini-documentaries portray a variety of perspectives โ from quiet routines to meaningful traditions โ offering authentic glimpses into the spirit of Rokytnice nad Jizerou.
