Our hike took place in the Cerová vrchovina, a unique volcanic region in southern Slovakia often described as a geological open-air museum. Starting near Šiatorská Bukovinka, the route led us through landscapes shaped by ancient volcanic activity, including lava flows, volcanic cones, and wide plateaus. The area offered a rare opportunity to connect physical movement with learning, as the terrain itself tells the story of the region’s volcanic past.
The day began with light rain, but it did not discourage the group. Well prepared and guided, participants followed safe hiking practices discussed in advance. As the hike continued, the weather gradually improved and the sun came out, creating a pleasant atmosphere on the trail. This change added to the experience and highlighted the importance of awareness and adaptability while hiking in nature.
After covering around 15 kilometres, we ended the hike in Radzovce with a strong sense of shared achievement. The combination of movement, discovery, and social interaction made the day both relaxing and engaging. Despite the rainy start, the hike turned into an enjoyable and meaningful experience, fully reflecting the Hike More project’s aim to promote hiking as a health-enhancing activity for both body and mind.
