This hiking mobility is designed to offer not only a physical challenge but also a mental and emotional journey. It provides an escape from the modern world and daily routines, offering opportunities to connect with the environment in meaningful ways.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore the peaceful landscapes of Zemplén, discovering the varied characteristics of different terrains and environmental conditions.

The core of this program is its ability to unlock new experiences, and inspiring participants to embrace a more active and conscious lifestyle. It serves as a platform for growth, learning, and rediscovery within the context of Hungary’s hidden natural gems, the Zemplén region.

Participant Profile

  • Residents or citizens from any of these countries: Hungary, Slovakia, Czechia, Romania, Portugal.

  • Enjoys hiking and exploring new environments.
  • No prior experience is required, but a basic level of physical fitness is necessary to complete the hikes.
  • Fully available to participate throughout the duration of the program.
  • Currently not receiving any funds from the European Union (e.g.: participating in an Erasmus exchange program within University)

Location and Venue

The program will be hosted in Pálháza at the Hanyi Istók Tourist House and Forest Camp. Participants will be accommodated in shared rooms, housing 4-6 individuals, with room assignments based on international diversity and separated by gender.

Each participant will be served three meals a day: breakfast, a packed lunch, and dinner.

Participants’ dietary preferences should be provided during the application process to ensure meals are prepared accordingly.

Useful information

  • Participation costs: There are no participation costs. Accommodation and three daily meals are funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union. However all participants are responsible for their own travel costs. To avoid last-minute cancelations, participants who are selected will need to pay a 30€ deposit to confirm their participation. This is to avoid last-minute cancelations and to cover possible damages caused by the participants on the accommodation. The money is sent back after the activity.

  • Travel:  The 16th and 20th of April will be the travel days. Please note that all participants are required to cover and arrange their own transportation to the venue. Using personal vehicles is preferred to facilitate easier movement between hiking locations.

  • Health & Insurance: We do not organize insurance for our participants. If they wish to have coverage, participants must arrange insurance for themselves. However, we ask all participants to bring their European Health Insurance Cards, which can be used if they need hospital care.

  • What to bring: Ensure you have your identification card or passport, a towel, and Hungarian Forint as pocket money for personal items (we recommend bringing cash since ATMs might not be available near the venue). Also, pack board games for downtime, and sufficient comfortable clothing for the length of the program and the outdoor activities. Essential items for hiking include reliable, comfortable hiking boots, weather-appropriate layered clothing, a raincoat, a hiking backpack, and a water bottle.
