Summary

We believe in the potential of hiking as a health-enhancing activity for everyone.

This weekend event features organized group hikes, offering you the chance to explore the secrets of Penha Mountain in Guimarães, the so-called birthplace of Portugal.

You’ll also connect and share memorable moments with other young people from various European countries.

Participant Profile

  • Resident or citizen from any of these countries: Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Portugal.

  • Enjoys hiking and the contact with nature.

  • No prior experience is required, but a basic level of physical fitness is necessary to complete all the hikes.

  • Available to participate in the whole activity.

  • Currently not receiving any funds from the European Union (e.g.: participating in an Erasmus exchange program within University).

Location and Venue

We will be hosted at Penha – Centro Escutista de Guimarães (PCEG), a facility dedicated to scouts. The accommodation features multiple rooms with beds and bunk beds. Our group will have access to all rooms, kitchen, dining room, gender-separated bathhouses, and other areas.

Participants must bring a sleeping bag. If this is not possible, our organization can provide one upon request. The venue also boasts large outdoor areas and a football field for use during free time.

Selected participants will have access to all facilities at no cost. Meals are also included, and cooking teams will be organized within the group.

Useful information

  • Participation costs: There are no participation costs. Accommodation and three daily meals are funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union. However, the Portuguese participants are responsible for arranging their own travel to Guimarães at their own costs. To avoid last-minute cancelations, participants who are selected are required to pay a 30 € deposit to confirm their participation. The money is sent back after the activity.

  • Travel: The 26th and the 28th of July are designated travel days. The non-Portuguese participants will be traveling mainly by plane (and possibly they will need to travel also during the 29th of July). The Portuguese participants will use bus, train, or shared car transportation to travel. Once participants are selected, project coordinators will collaborate on developing a travel itinerary.

  • Health & Insurance: We do not organize insurance for our participants. If they wish to have coverage, participants must arrange insurance for themselves. However, we ask all participants to bring their European Health Insurance Cards, which can be used if they need hospital care.

  • What to bring: Identification card or passport, sleeping bag, towel, hiking shoes, comfortable clothes based on the weather forecast, sunscreen, sunglasses, reusable water bottle(s), small backpack to carry food, water, and personal items during the hikes.

  • Terms & Conditions: Refer to www.e29.eu/terms-and-conditions for detailed terms and conditions.
