Summary

Film Frequency is a youth exchange designed to boost the digital skills of young people through filmmaking, sound design, and music production. Throughout this activity, participants will dive into the full process of creating short films or engaging videos – from building an idea to filming, acting, editing, and crafting sound effects and music tracks.

They’ll have the chance to experiment with equipment like cameras, lenses, lights, tripods, stabilizers, and even a drone to bring their ideas to life visually. After the filming process, they’ll move on to the editing phase using video editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve. On the sound side, they’ll explore music production, sound design, and Foley — the art of recording custom sound effects using everyday objects. With the help of DAW software like FL Studio or Ableton, and some gear such as a MIDI controller, microphones, and electric instruments, participants will create their own original soundtracks and soundscapes.

This exchange program is a hands-on opportunity to try out different roles, work in international teams, and gain valuable digital skills while having fun and learning by doing. Whether you’re more into cameras, music, storytelling, or just curious to explore something new, Film Frequency offers a space to step into the world of audiovisual creation in a collaborative and creative environment.

Activity Schedule

  • 30 April: Arrival Day

This day is dedicated to traveling. We will arrange flights for all the selected foreign participants. More details about the travel arrangements can be found at the end of this infopack. We are expected to arrive at the accommodation in the evening.

  • 1-2 May: Introduction & Team Building

The activity will be introduced. Participants will organize topic-related challenges and interactive activities to help everyone get to know each other better. These activities will create a friendly atmosphere and build trust and cooperation, preparing everyone for the collaborative week ahead.

  • 3-6 May: Hands-on Filmmaking and Sound Production

Over these days, participants will immerse themselves in the practical aspects of filmmaking, audio production, and digital content creation. They’ll work with a variety of audiovisual equipment, including cameras and microphones, while also exploring video editing and sound design. Depending on their interests, participants will have the chance to take on roles in acting, filming, or sound/music production.

Workshops will provide valuable skills in these areas, but much of the learning will happen through collaboration, where more experienced participants will be encouraged to support and guide others.

Participants will work together on hands-on tasks to create different forms of digital content. The main result of these days will be the creation of a final short film, produced from scratch through all filmmaking phases, including planning, recording, and post-production. A particular challenge will be that the audio and music elements will be entirely created by participants, without the use of external sound libraries.

  • 7 May: Mobility Closure

On this day, participants will reflect on the learning process, share insights, and evaluate the impact of the activity. There will be a final session for feedback, where participants can discuss their personal growth, the skills acquired, and the importance of digital skills and the ability to create audiovisual content in today’s world, both personally and professionally. This day will also be dedicated to planning future dissemination activities, allowing participants to share what they’ve learned with others in their communities. The experience will be celebrated during a closing ceremony, where participants will receive their Youthpass certificates, marking the completion of the activity.

  • 8 May: Departure Day

This day is dedicated to traveling. We are expected to depart from the accommodation by private bus in the morning.

Location and Venue

We will be accommodated at Oasis Backpackers Hostel Sintra Surf. The venue features shared rooms for 5–6 people, organized by gender, and includes common areas such as a kitchen, a group activity room, and a spacious outdoor area. A dedicated kitchen team will use the kitchen to prepare three meals a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Within the hostel grounds, participants will also find a supermarket and snack bars. The accommodation is located just a few meters from the beach, offering plenty of opportunities to relax and explore during free time.

  • Passionate or curious about filmmaking, music production, or digital media – no prior experience is required!

  • Open to working with peers from different cultures and engaging with the local community.

Selection Criteria

We aim for a balanced group across countries, genders, and experience levels. This activity values diversity of experience and background – whether you’re a first-timer or have some knowledge in video, sound, or performing arts, your motivation and attitude matter most.

We’re especially looking for participants who show a willingness to contribute actively: That means more than attending every session. It’s about bringing good energy, supporting your peers, taking initiative, and even sharing your own skills or ideas with the group. Whether you feel comfortable leading a session or helping someone set up a mic, your involvement will make a difference!

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so apply early, as spots are limited.

Useful information

  • Participation costs: There are no participation fees. Travel, accommodation, and food are co-funded by the Erasmus+ program. However, selected participants will be required to pay a 50€ deposit to confirm their participation. This deposit helps prevent last-minute cancellations and covers any potential damages at the accommodation. The deposit will be refunded if participants attend all sessions and complete a dissemination task agreed upon during the closure day (e.g.: presenting the results of this activity at a school or to a group of friends; organizing a workshop in a local community; etc).

  • Health & Insurance: All participants must arrange travel insurance for themselves. Moreover, all participants must bring their European Health Insurance Cards, which can be used for hospital care if needed. If you do not have this card yet, you can easily make one for free.

  • What to bring: Identification card or passport; typical snack for the cultural night (to share your country’s cuisine); towel; comfortable and enough clothes for the entire activity based on the weather forecast (note that there might not be a washing machine available at the accommodation); coat (the area can be windy, and the nights might be cold and humid); triple socket (it might be useful to have one in your room); camera (optional – filming equipment will be provided, but feel free to bring your own); laptop (optional but recommended – it will be needed for video editing and sound production, and at least one laptop will be needed per group); headphones (optional, but very useful for music production).

  • Terms & Conditions: Refer to www.e29.eu/terms-and-conditions for detailed terms and conditions.

Travel

  • The non-Portuguese participants will travel by plane together with their national groups. All flight tickets will be purchased by our organization.
  • The booked flight fare is the most basic and includes only one small backpack that fits under the plane seats.
  • There are no guarantees that all participants will travel from their closest airport. Hungarians, Czechs, and Slovaks might need to use the same airport.
  • Romanians can expect an itinerary with flight connections.
  • The official travel days for this event are the 30th of April and the 8th of May. However, a few participants might need to start traveling one day earlier or return home one day later (especially those living far from the airports or in more remote areas). Participants with duties that make them unavailable on the 29th of April or on the 9th of May must mention it in their applications.
  • Tickets for travel within the same city, such as metro tickets or tickets for the shuttle bus to reach the airport (e.g., the 100E bus in Budapest), must be acquired and covered by the participants.
  • On the 30th of April in the evening, a private bus will drive us from Lisbon Airport to our accommodation in Sintra. This same private bus will drop us back at Lisbon Airport on the 8th of May in the morning. Participants are free to explore Lisbon during the travel days if they have time.
  • Portuguese participants can also use the private bus departing from Lisbon Airport for free to get to the accommodation in Sintra. However, if preferred, they can travel directly by car (covering their own expenses and arriving only in the evening).
  • Once all participants have been selected and have confirmed their participation, the project coordinators will work with the national group leaders to develop a final travel itinerary for each group. These itineraries will be communicated via Discord, and the travel tickets will be shared via Email and Discord.
  • After being selected, you will have 24 hours to confirm your participation by providing additional information and paying the 50€ deposit (which will be refunded under normal circumstances). If you don’t confirm within 24 hours, your participation may be marked as inactive on the E29 portal, and you risk losing your spot. We recommend checking your email (including your spam folder) in the days following your application to avoid missing any updates.
