Between the 12th and the 15th of June, 2023, a group of hiking enthusiasts and instructors gathered in Cheile Bicazului – Hasmas National Park in Romania for a Hiking Mobility in the scope of the Hike More Erasmus+ sport project. The participants hailed from 5 different countries: Slovakia, Hungary, Portugal, Czechia, and Romania. This journey was an opportunity to improve hiking capabilities while building connections and memories.
The weather on the first day was unpredictable, with rain clouds hovering above as the group set out on their initial 20.1-kilometer hike. The trail presented its own set of challenges—steep climbs, muddy paths, and the uncertainty of the elements. Yet, these obstacles only heightened the sense of adventure. As the day wore on, the rain stopped, and the clouds began to part, revealing the beautiful Romanian hills bathed in sunlight. The group was rewarded with breathtaking views, a perfect reminder of why they had come together.
After completing the first hike, the group engaged in team-building exercises, fostering a sense of unity and camaraderie. That night, they rested in a cozy cottage surrounded by the tranquility of the woods, a fitting end to a day filled with both physical and mental challenges.
On the next day, with renewed energy, the group embarked on their second hike, this time covering 18.3 kilometers. The bonds formed the previous day made this trek feel less like a challenge and more like a shared journey. Conversations flowed easily, laughter echoed through the trails, and the collective effort made the experience both easier and more enjoyable. The landscape offered a mix of rugged beauty and serene spots, and the group’s cooperation transformed potential obstacles into opportunities for learning and growth.
By the time they reached their destination, the group had not only covered considerable ground but had also deepened their connections with one another. The evening was spent at a comfortable hotel, where participants could rest, recover, and reflect on their achievements.
The last hiking day brought a gentler pace as the group set out on their final hike. The terrain was less demanding, allowing everyone to fully appreciate the beauty of the Hasmas National Park without the intensity of the previous days. This hike was a time for quiet reflection, conversation, and the enjoyment of simply being in nature.
After completing this final leg of their journey, the group gathered for a celebratory lunch. It was a time to savor their shared experiences, exchange contact information, and look back on the journey they had undertaken together.
The participants left with more than just improved hiking skills; they departed with a sense of accomplishment, new friendships, and a deep connection to the natural beauty of Romania. The event successfully met its objectives, enhancing the skills and mobility of hiking instructors while fostering an international community of outdoor enthusiasts.
