Summary

Do you want to learn how to make your community more fun and lively and provide opportunities for young people? Are you a person who likes to use their voice to advocate for inclusion, who likes to gain new skills, and who loves thinking creatively?

If your answer to the above questions is “yes!”, then the Shock Waves Youth Exchange is for you.

This inspiring activity will take place in Portugal, and it is designed for young people like you who want to make a real difference in their communities. Throughout 8 days of hands-on workshops, you will have the opportunity to actively learn how to organize inclusive local events that offer cultural and social opportunities for young people from all backgrounds. In this way, you will be able to help your community grow and flourish!

You will gain these valuable skills in a smooth and fun way, thanks to non-formal education methods that include open discussions, reflections, workshops in international teams, creative photography-related activities and so much more! Through these interactive sessions, your learning process will feel natural, fun, and rewarding. No boring lectures!

In addition to the practical and transferable skills you will develop, you will also have the chance to connect with people from all across Europe. Together, you will create meaningful memories, share experiences, and form lifelong friendships. Moreover, you will be able to step out of your comfort zone by exploring Portugal and discovering more about the cultures and traditions of the other participating countries.

If all this sounds exciting to you, then don’t wait – apply now and become part of this unforgettable experience!

Participant Profile

  • Resident or citizen of one of these countries: Czechia, Hungary, Romania, Portugal, or Slovakia.

  • Aged between 18 and 25 years old (indicative numbers, not exclusive).

  • Available to attend the whole program duration and put effort into all the sessions.

  • Shows enthusiasm or curiosity for learning more about event planning and inclusion.

  • Ready to be involved with the local community.

  • Open-minded, active, and disposed to help and contribute to the activity.

  • Expresses a willingness to disseminate results of the youth exchange to other groups of young people.

  • Currently not receiving any funds from the European Union (e.g.: participating in an Erasmus exchange program within University).

Selection Criteria

We aim for a balanced group across countries, genders, and experience levels. This activity values diversity of experience and background – past experience in the field is not required (Erasmus is all about learning, after all!), however, we welcome participants with more expertise who can support their less experienced peers during their learning journey.

Young people from geographically or economically disadvantaged backgrounds are particularly welcome, as the project seeks to foster growth and inclusion through youth-led engagement.

We’re especially looking for participants who show a willingness to contribute actively: That means more than attending every session. It’s about bringing good energy, supporting your peers, taking initiative, and even sharing your own skills or ideas with the group. Whether you feel comfortable leading a session or helping someone set up a projector, your involvement will make a difference!

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so apply early, as spots are limited!

Mobility Schedule

  • Day 1: Team Building & Connecting

This day will be dedicated to getting to know your peers through energizing ice-breakers and fun teambuilding sessions. By the end of this day, you are guaranteed to make a lot of new friends! :)

  • Days 2-5: Inclusive Events 101

During these days, you will begin to explore topic of event planning starting from the very basics. Using non-formal learning methods such as debates, interactive group activities, and reflections, you will learn how to identify inclusion-related issues in your community, how to plan activities that tackle this issue, how to get the necessary materials and how to create promotional materials. You will slowly build your way up to having an almost full-fledged event!

  • Days 6-7: Your Own Event

During these days, you will get the chance to put your knowledge to the test, and, together with your peers, you will organize your very own event in the vibrant community of Peniche, based on the work that you did during the past days. It can be anything you deem necessary – a beach clean-up, a karaoke/talent night, an art exhibition – the world is your oyster! Throughout the entire process, you will be supported by more experienced participants and volunteers!

  • Day 8: Mobility Closure

During this day, you will reflect on your experiences, plan future dissemination activities and receive your YouthPass certificate. This day will also be dedicated to saying goodbyes and celebrating the knowledge that you have gained and the friendships and memories created.

Location and Venue

We will be accommodated at Peniche Surf Camp, just a few meters from the beach. This inspiring venue offers the perfect blend of comfort and connection, allowing us to engage with the local community and immerse ourselves in the vibrant culture of Peniche. The camp includes shared rooms for 4-5 people, organized by gender, as well as common areas such as a kitchen, a group activity room, and balconies for relaxation and socializing. Participants can also schedule surf lessons during their free time (at their own cost) for an extra dose of adventure.

Travel Plan

  • Travel days will be 25th of November and the 3rd of December

  • Portuguese participants can use the private bus departing from Lisbon Airport for free to get to the accommodation in Peniche. However, if preferred, they can travel directly by car (covering their own expenses and arriving only in the evening).

  • There are no guarantees that all participants will travel from the closest airport. Hungarians, Czechs, and Slovaks may travel from the Budapest Airport or Vienna Airport. Romanians may also travel using Budapest airport.

  • Tickets for travel within the same city, such as metro tickets or tickets for the shuttle bus to reach the airport (e.g., the 100E bus in Budapest), must be acquired and covered by the participants.

  • Once the participants’ selection is finished and everyone is confirmed, the project coordinators will arrange with the national group leaders to finalize the travel itinerary for each group.

  • The travel tickets from meeting points to mobility venue and back will be purchased by our organization.

  • Each partner country will have a maximum of two meeting points, where participants will gather to begin their travel. Usually, these meeting points are the cities where majority of participants come from. In case participant is from different city, s/he should arrange their own travel to the meetings points.

  • For flights, we are purchasing the basic option, which includes one small backpack to be carried under the seat. You will be free to add priority or cargo luggage to your reservation if you want at your own cost.

  • In some cases it might be needed for participants to travel one day earlier or return one day later, namely if there are no viable flight connections in the same day. If you are not available on the 24th of November or the 4th of December, please mention it in your application in the additional information section.

  • All important information regarding travel and other topics will be available on a dedicated Discord channel of the activity and via e-mail.

  • Above you can find a preliminary travel plan for each national group. These might change depending on the availability of connections and prices.

Useful information

  • No participation costs: There are no participation fees. Travel, accommodation, and food are co-funded by the Erasmus+ program. However, selected participants will be required to pay a 50€ deposit to confirm their participation. This deposit helps prevent last-minute cancellations and covers any potential damages at the accommodation. The deposit will be refunded if participants attend all sessions and complete a dissemination task agreed upon during the closure day (e.g.: presenting the results of this activity at a school or to a group of friends; organizing a workshop in a local community; etc).

  • Health & Insurance: All participants must arrange travel insurance for themselves. Moreover, all participants must bring their European Health Insurance Cards, which can be used for hospital care if needed. If you do not have this card yet, you can easily make one for free.

  • What to bring: Identification card or passport; typical snack for the cultural night (to share your country’s cuisine); towel; comfortable and enough clothes for the entire activity based on the weather forecast (note that there might not be a washing machine available at the accommodation.); warm sleeping clothes (the rooms will not have heating); warm coat (the area can be windy, and the nights might be cold and humid); triple socket (it might be useful to have one in your room); laptop (optional, but might be useful for some sessions).
