Summary
Join us on an unforgettable 10 km hike along part of the Rota do Sicó, including a visit to the spectacular Buracas do Casmilo. This section is perfect for those who want a full hiking experience without doing the full 24 km route. The trail offers panoramic views, limestone formations, valleys, and glimpses of local rural life, with a moderate elevation gain of around 360 m. Walking time is about 2.5 hours, plus time for rests, photos, and enjoying the surroundings.
So, what are the Buracas do Casmilo? They are natural cavities formed over thousands of years in the limestone landscape. Water erosion shaped these dramatic holes, caves, and ravines, creating unusual rock formations and shaded, cool hollows. Visiting them is a highlight of the trail and a unique way to experience the region’s geology.
